Perhaps we, as a society, have lost the understanding of what the word "fiction" means. It means that something is not true. Indeed, if we look at the word in the dictionary, we find that another definition of fiction is a "lie."
If we look at the root of the word "scientific," it stems from "science," which in Latin means "to know."
So it is with amazement that we continue to see the incredible publicity (read $$$) that is being given to a television station that labels itself as the "Sci Fi" channel.
In other words, it is a station one would turn to if one wants "to know lies."
And that is just what is being fed to our children: lies.
They began last month with the station's so-called "smoking gun" regarding the supposed crash landing of an "alien spacecraft" in the New Mexico desert near the town of Roswell.
The "smoking gun" turned out to be a memo in a photograph published in a 1947 newspaer that was magnified by computer enhancement to view the previously "unseen" letters.
While the letters still could not be discerned by the normal human eye when broadcast on TV, the Sci Fi guest "investigator" helped his audience by having typewritten what he believed the letters to be. He could, of course, not ascertain all the letters, so this supposed investigator used a computer to randomly suggest what letters might be missing.
In other words, the letters V T M and S of a supposed word were "visible" on the memo in the 1947 photograph (to someone, certainly not to this viewer) and the computer suggested that the missing letters could possibly be I C and I, conviently spelling the word VICTIMS.
This was the "smoking gun" helping to "prove" that little grey men once crashed in the desert.
And now tonight, the Sci Fi channel will bring us the latest piece of Steven Spielberg propaganda (read mega $$$) with the premier of Taken. The premise of the show's story is that since Roswell, human beings have been abducted by aliens from another planet who happen to like breeding with us. Their "offspring" are among us and, we would venture to guess, the story will revolve around this new breed, along with their alien creators, as the ultimate "saviors" of mankind.
It does not take a genius to understand that since there is only one Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, the premise of the abduction story, and the claim that aliens really did land in the New Mexican desert, are among the most dangerous lies to perpetuate. Why? Because they potentially lead unsuspecting souls down the wrong pathway.
Don't believe it? Just check out the claims of those who say they are about to give the world its first cloned human being. The "Raelians," as they call themselves and 10,000 strong, look to a leader who believes aliens first cloned human beings thousands of years ago. Their leader, of course, found this out when he was "abducted" by -- you guessed it -- aliens!
But this is all "science fiction" -- "to know lies."
We, however, can know the Truth. Our God did not leave us orphans. He left us irrefutable scientific evidence. It is embodied in a cloth we call the Shroud of Turin. And while we can go into detail after detail that proves the cloth's authenticity, it truly is a matter of faith. No matter how much "science" one knows about the Shroud matters not. What really matters is what does that Face on the cloth say to you?
And since the Shroud proves Jesus walked the Earth, we must remember that the "Old Testament," as we call it today, was widely revered and venerated by the nation of Israel when He spoke to the people. In this regard, Jesus did not say to the people of Israel, "Hey, you know that book called 'Genesis'? Remember the part where it said God created Adam and Eve? I was just jokin'. Wait 2,000 years and scientists will reveal the Truth to you."
No, He didn't say that.
So what do you want to believe in? Little grey men who abduct innocent people for sexual experimentation?
Or a merciful God who so loved the world that He gave us His only begotten Son -- the ultimate and only Savior of mankind, who gave His own life to ransom the world from the father of lies.
We need not fear. We need not be looking for UFOs or scan the skies for other lies. We need only to get real and to be looking to Him.
In our world of science, coupled with our media (read unlimited $$$), we have lost Truth and embraced lies. In the past, people would study what was known as the "science of the Saints." We need to return to that.
The word "Saints" translates to "holy ones." And the fourth definition of science is "knowledge, gained through experience." Therefore, the science of the Saints is the "knowledge of the holy ones." The knowledge and experiences they had that Jesus is God; Mary is to be honored; and that the Shroud is real. Their science was to know Truth.
And to know Truth is to know Him.
