| To Our Sacred Heart Jesus of Mercy A Heart So Loved When Praised in the Holy Name! |
||||||||||||||||
| In this Year of the Rosary, everyone, even many who are not Catholics, are familiar with the prayers that praise and honor the Blessed Virgin. With 53 Hail Marys in each Mystery, it is truly Marian in its devotion. Others are familiar with the Divine Mercy Chaplet, a virtual newcomer on the scene, with its praises and honor of our Lord’s Divine Passion. These are extremely powerful and vitally critical prayers for today’s times. But, as the Holy Father himself showed the way, they are not the only Mysteries of the Rosary one can celebrate. As John Paul II instituted the new Mysteries of Light meditations, we could not be more grateful as it reawakened the spiritual focus of the Rosary on other events in the lives of Jesus and Mary. In this light, to honor and make reparation to our Sacred Heart Jesus of Mercy, we would like to reintroduce, as we did the consecration from the Ursuline Manual of 1854, the Blessed Name of Jesus Rosary. This Rosary, like the Holy Child’s Rosary, has fallen by the wayside as modernized Catholics lost sight of the incredible treasury of prayers handed down to us through the ages. Its power, however, cannot be disputed; not only because it was approved and promulgated by the Church for centuries, but because its real glory and holiness is in the pleasure it gives our Savior as we call upon His Name — a Name so badly maligned in these days of apostasy and paganism. Here, in celebration of the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, is the Blessed Name of Jesus Rosary — which can be said not only on a feast day, but every day in place of any other Rosary or Chaplet. The promise of graces from these prayers is just as potent as any other. In fact, we dare to say that because many no longer say these forgotten prayers, the chance of increased graces through this Rosary’s recitation might be greater as the Lord recognizes those who are trying to please Him in a time when so little is done — out of 6-billion-plus people — to make reparation to our King! As we invoke the prayers, it is easy to see the correlation between this Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet! To begin the Rosary, we first recommend invoking St. Michael’s protection and asking the Virgin to accept these prayers through Her Immaculate Heart in the Communion of Saints. One might begin with the Fatima prayer, “O my Jesus, it is for the love of Thee, in reparation for the offenses committed against” the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary that we offer up the Blessed Name of Jesus Rosary to plead for the Reign of the Sacred Hearts (and whatever other petitions you may wish to make). As always, make the Sign of the Cross and then begin with these words: Thou, O Lord, wilt open my lips. And my tongue shall announce Thy praise! Incline unto my aid, O God. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever! Amen. Then recite the Apostles’ Creed, one Our Father and three Hail Marys as traditionally done on the Crucifix, first bead and three beads below the joiner. While the Blessed Name of Jesus contains all three Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious Mysteries, to honor the Sacred Heart of Jesus on His feast day, we will offer the Glorious Mysteries, which consist of saying one Our Father, as always on the first bead. In the first decade — which is offered up in remembrance of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ — after the Our Father, this mediation is prayed: The soul of our Lord Jesus Christ, which had been separated from the Body, is reunited to it by a miracle of the Almighty Power, and that Body which had been dead, rises to die no more. Then, on the 10 beads of each decade, recite this prayer: O Jesus, Son of the living God, have mercy on us! At the end, recite the Glory be prayer, but as it is done in this Rosary, with the words “Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning is now and will be for ever! Amen.” One can then include the words Mary taught to be said after any decade of any Rosary when asking a favor of the Mother of God: By Thy Holy and Immaculate Conception, O Mary, grant us … .” And then, of course, include your petition. As the Virgin asked at Fatima, we would then include to end the decade with the prayer: “O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell; lead all souls to Heaven, especially those most in need of Thy Mercy!” The second decade is then offered in remembrance of the Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ. After the Our Father, recite the meditation: Our Lord Jesus Christ ascends into the highest Heaven, where the Savior of mankind sits at the Right Hand of God the Father Almighty! Then repeat the Blessed Name of Jesus prayer 10 times: “O Jesus, Son of the living God, have mercy on us!” Pray the Glory be, the Immaculate Conception petition and the Fatima aspiration. The third decade follows the pattern laid out and is dedicated to remembering Our Lord Jesus Christ sends down the Holy Ghost. The meditation prayed after the Our Father states: Our Savior, now seated at the Right Hand of God, His Almighty Father, sends down the Holy Ghost to inspire and animate His disciples, that they may be qualified to publish to mankind His Cross and His glory! Repeat the Blessed Name of Jesus prayer and those that follow. In the fourth decade, we bring to mind the fact of Our Lord Jesus Christ crowning the blessed Saints! And, after the initial prayer, we remember in meditation: Our Savior having, by His Passion, Resurrection and Ascension, opened a way for the sons of Adam to Heaven, which they had lost by sin, bestows on His Mother and His Saints a crown of immortal glory! Complete the decade with the standard prayers. In the fifth and final decade, the most important meditation is brought to light: Our Lord Jesus coming to Judgment. After asking once again in the Lord’s Prayer for “Thy Kingdom” to come, it is mindful to note what will occur when this great event takes place: Our Savior will come in power and majesty, to judge the living and the dead, and to return to every one according to his works. No wonder we plead 10 times, O Jesus, Son of the living God, have mercy on us! After completing all the prayers of the final decade, the Blessed Name of Jesus Rosary ends on the joiner with this prayer: O Jesus! whose Name is above all names, that in the Name of Jesus every knee may bend, of those that are in Heaven, on Earth and in hell: whose Body that was nailed to the Cross for mankind, the Almighty raised from death glorious and immortal; who by Thy Ascension triumphed over death, and held captivity captive. Who, according to Thy promise, sent down the Spirit that proceedeth from the Father and the Son, the Comforter, the Enlivener; who stretching forth the bounty of Thy Almighty Hand, shed upon the chosen children of Adam that glory that neither eye hath seen, nor ear hath heard, nor hath it entered into the heart of man; and who will come forth in power and majesty to judge the living and the dead, before whose Throne all mortals will appear, grant us to celebrate those mysteries to Thy honor and our salvation; who with the Father and the Holy Ghost livest and reignest, one God, for all Eternity. Amen. To complete the Rosary, as is customary, the Salve Regina — Hail, Holy Queen — prayer to Mary should be said. On this feast dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we can think of no better way to honor and please our Savior than to say this unique Rosary and its Glorious Mysteries! For those who appreciated this information, please contact us and let us know if you want the Joyful and Sorrowful Mysteries that are included in the Ursuline Manual. At the appropriate time, we will publish them on our web site for you if enough readers show an interest. May the Sacred Heart of Jesus bless all our readers and may He keep you and your loved ones in the safety of His Mother’s Immaculate Heart. As the Queen of Saints, may Mary keep St. Ursula and St. Angela Merici interceding for you always before Her Son as Agnus Dei! © 2003 Agnus Dei Presents! Admirable is the Name of the Lord! |
